Sarasota Vacations-Top Six

by | Oct 29, 2011

Sarasota has something for everyone.  Growing up in Sarasota I didn’t realize just how much this beautiful city on the Gulf Coast of Florida had to offer.  After moving away for over 17 years and coming back to this beautiful part of Florida, I have a whole new appreciation for Sarasota.

Let’s start with the most obvious, first, the beaches are the best in America.  In fact, Siesta Key was voted the #1 beach in America by Dr. Beach himself.   Siesta Key, Longboat Key, and Lido Beach are all beautiful beaches in Sarasota.  So what makes them so beautiful you ask?  Sarasota has white powder sand beaches, with crystal blue waters, and wildlife.  While at the beach you can rent kayaks, bikes, scooters, etc. at Siesta Key Sports Rentals.

Second, if shopping is your thing, beautiful St. Armand’s Circle has shopping as well as great restaurants. Savvy shoppers include not only the locals, but people from all over the U.S. and abroad. Explore the fashionable boutiques, jewelry and specialty gift shops to find things fun and unique for you or for someone special back home.

Bringing the children?  Third, Sarasota has child friendly attractions.  Let’s start with Mote Marine.  At Mote, you can explore the secrets of the sea through touch pools, viewable-working labs and high-tech interactive exhibits that showcase the world-renowned research of Mote Marine Laboratory.  See sharks, dolphins, manatees and sea turtles, along with more than 100 other species of marine life.  Or enjoy the great outdoors at Sarasota Jungle Gardens, featuring 10 acres of lush tropical vegetation, winding jungle trails, and entertaining, educational bird and reptile shows.  Sarasota also has Big Cat Habitat, Coconuts Game Room and so much more for the kids.

Fourth, Sarasota’s restaurants are outstanding!  In downtown Sarasota you will find the Bijou Café featuring seasonal salmon pan seared with citrus tomato vinaigrette, grilled asparagus, and mashed potatoes, another downtown favorite is Mozaic with entrée’s like pan seared duck confit & raison-spaghetti squash with pine nuts and & raspberry chutney demi glace.

Longboat Key has Chart House with a stunning view of the Gulf of Mexico.  Choose from famous entrées such as Snapper Hemingway, Shrimp Fresca & slow roasted Prime Rib. They also offer a daily selection of fresh fish, & decadent desserts like their famous Hot Chocolate Lava Cake.

Now let’s journey south to the famous Siesta Key beach.  My favorite place is Claytons’ Siesta Grille, enjoy favorites like almond crusted rainbow trout, blue crab crusted grouper, or how about grilled filet mignon.  Another favorite is The Old Salty Dog.  Enjoy coconut shrimp, barbecue ribs, crab cakes and many other amazing menu items.

Fifth, if culture is what you are looking for, check out what is happening at the Van Wezel Performing Arts, Asolo Theatre, or The Players Theatre.

We saved the best for last!  The sixth reason to vacation in Sarasota is that you can enjoy some grown up time just for you.   Elite Family Care provides reliable, safe, and caring babysitters so you can enjoy peace of mind.  Our Elite Sitters are nationwide background screened, CPR & first aid certified, and love engaging children in activities such as crafts, games, and other age appropriate activities.  Please check out our website at www.elitefamilycare.com

Sarasota has it all!  We have beaches, family fun, unique shopping, amazing restaurants, and wonderful local businesses who cater to our visiting families and are committed to making your stay a memorable one!
